Northeastern Illinois Research Talent Asset Map

The Northeastern Illinois Research Talent Asset Map is a searchable database of research expertise engaged in manufacturing research, research in the sciences and other disciplines that comprise manufactured products, manufacturing related engineering, and manufacturing design. The research talent highlighted in the asset map is drawn from five universities located in Northeast Illinois. The participating universities include: the Illinois Institute of Technology, Northern Illinois University, Northwestern University, the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This initiative is funded by the Economic Development Administration (EDA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Illinois Department of Commerce of Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to demonstrate the benefit of a web-based data portal highlighting and mapping researchers engaged in manufacturing research, research in the sciences and other disciplines that comprise manufactured products, manufacturing related engineering, and manufacturing design. The Institute for Work and the Economy, a policy collaborative in workforce and economic development, is leading the effort and has set forth five specific goals for this initiative. They include:
  • Enable manufacturing enterprises to identify, connect with and leverage the region’s research and design talent in higher education
  • Identify clusters of research strengths and weaknesses in research and design capacity;
  • Support the goals of the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute;
  • Leverage greater agglomerations of research and development talent in manufacturing and design as well as support increased investment and expenditures by area research universities; and
  • Enable the region to compete more effectively for manufacturing and manufacturing research investment (domestic and foreign, public and private) by demonstrating the intellectual and applied research capabilities of the region.
We invite you to explore the profiles, publications, and network of collaborators of our region’s top experts in manufacturing.
